Arriving on a relatively large island such as Santorini, with many villages, geological wealth and long history, you will definitely need 5-7 days to say that you have seen it all or almost all, depending on your pace.
Your tour should not miss the visit to the villages of Santorini which, apart from the Cycladic architecture, most of them also have amazing views.
Just ten minutes walk is Firostefani, where its name means crown of Fira. Compared to the rest of Fira, it is located at an altitude, which makes it attractive. Its narrow alleys and traditional houses and the view to the Volcano make this village special.
One kilometer above Firostefani is Imerovigli, about 300m. from the sea surface. It has been declared a traditional place and special conditions have been imposed for its construction. Its strategic position is such that in the past it allowed the observation of the whole island for pirates. Right in front of it, the small castle of Skharos is built.
It is 10 km. from Fira and is the highest village of Santorini. Its picturesque alleys are beautiful and is considered one of the most famous and quiet parts of the island. Formerly it was the capital of the island and one of the castles. If you are in Pyrgos, it is worth continuing to the monastery of Profitis Ilias, where you will gaze at the whole island.
It is located at the southwestern tip of the island, 15km. from Fira. Akrotiri is world famous, due to the prehistoric settlement that was discovered in the area. In the 18th century BC. it had developed into a regular city, while in the early 17th century BC. it was leveled by an earthquake but rebuilt until the great Minoan eruption that separated the island.
Do not leave without visiting the village lighthouse. Built in 1892 and at an altitude of 98 meters, it is one of the most functional in Greece.
At the top of the middle mountain, we find ancient Thira. It was founded in the 8th century BC. The view is incredible, you have the whole island at your feet.
Traditional place, famous for the view of the sunset. It was also one of the castles of the island. In Oia we find the so-called cave houses with a narrow front and great depth.
Do not forget to go through the Atlantis bookstore, with its wonderful atmosphere and very good location. It has many foreign language books, from rare editions!
An unadulterated tourist paradise opposite of Santorini. In the past, before the volcano erupted, it was part of it. From here the view of the caldera is impressive.
